Where Did Suduko Come From?
Suduko has created a rage among the Americans. The top magazines of the US carry Suduko puzzle everyday to appease the “hunger” of Suduko-addicts. They are even available online.
However, where did this mesmerizing game originate? The story behind the roots of Suduko is very interesting to know. Read on…
Suduko, which means “the digits must remain single”, is the brainchild of the Japanese, who created it in the 18th century. Some believe that the place of Suduko’s origin is China. Suduko portrays the concept of magic squares, which was deeply respected by the ancient Chinese, Greeks, and Babylonians.
What is a magic square? It looks like a Suduko square, the only difference being that the digits in each row, column, and diagonal adds up to an equal sum. However, unlike Suduko, magic squares were not used for recreation, but for magical and astrological reasons. They were considered to be sacred or divine. Surprisingly, magic squares have been present since 2800 B.C. At that time, they were the possession of alchemists and mystics, who used them for super natural purposes. A famous German physician and theologian, Comelius Arippa, had built seven magic squares, which depicted the then known seven planets, including the sun and the moon. Thus, the history of Suduko is deep-rooted and intriguing too!
The Magic of Suduko
Although Suduko made its first appearance in a US puzzle book in 1979, its magic cast a spell in Japan in 1980. However, on 12th November 2004, the Times made an effort to draw the attention of Americans towards this fascinating game by publishing this puzzle. They called it Su Doko. Thereafter, US was gripped with Suduko fever. Its incredibly simple rules attract people like magnet.
Suduko is the trademark of the Japanese publisher Nikoli Ltd. Therefore; some publishers refer to it as “Number Place”, which means “Nanpure” in Japanese. In the US, Suduko is also popular as “Number Place”.
Suduko on Computer
Suduko was first introduced on a personal computer in 1989. It was launched under the name “DigitHunt” on Commodore 64. Since then, it has evolved into many forms, drawing millions of fans across the US. Thus, starting from Japan, Suduko has managed to conquer the hearts of the Americans and people across the globe.
Suduko is not just any other puzzle game. It is associated with magic squares, which were once used for divine purposes! Now, this makes for the perfect addiction…go-ahead get hooked to this mind-blowing puzzle.
