Picking The Right Paper For Your Scrapbook
You probably won’t consider the kind of paper you use for your scrapbook to be a crucial thing, there is, however, a lot to consider when thinking about the right kind of paper to use.
First things first:
What Is The Occasion?
The occasion can help decide what the best colour to use for your paper or card. If you were making a scrapbook about someone’s baby years, you might look at using light blue or soft pink card.
If you were making a high school scrapbook you might go with the colours of the school the child went to.
This may truly help when selecting which is the right color for your paper.
Consider the Weight of Your Pages
Consider the layout of the page you are about to make. Will there be plenty of photos? How much decoration is going on the page?
What you need to do here is just figure out how much weight will be going on the page. Too much weight and your page will sag, too much glue and it can wrinkle and collect in waves.
If you either of these things could affect your page, you will want to think about adding some backing card to your page to support the weight it may be bearing.
Protecting Your Pages
Its funny how so many folk take a large amount of time and care when laying out and setting up their pages to look nice, but do not stop to think about how to protect those pages from wear.
There are several options you have here. Some paper and card comes with a couple of different finishes. The most common is wax. A wax finish is resilient to water and will also square up to a lot of damage from fingers and hands thumbing through your pages.
If you have alreay your paper chosen or can’t stand the thought of using a wax finish paper, you can always spray hairspray over of your paper. This provides an invisible protective coat for your paper. Its used by a large amount of artists, espeically on charcoal drawings to stop smearing and smudging.
So there you go, the easy way to make sure your paper is as perfect as your scrapbook is going to be.
