Let The Artist In You Grow - Paint Model Cars
Model cars are a great attraction among kids and adults alike. Because of their small size, model cars look cute and handsome at the same time. Model cars have intricate details just like their original counterparts. Once the model car is set up, painting it properly is of utmost importance. Apart from collecting model cars, painting these cars has also grown as a hobby among many people.
The First Step
You can become an expert at painting model cars. Just let the artist in you stand up and see how well your wings grow. First things first, you will need a well-ventilated workplace that is out of the reach of children. Your work will speak for itself if you work undisturbed. Keep your workplace free of dust and dirt and, most importantly, keep the base of your painting as waxed paper.
Initially, even before you start to paint, wash the model car and let it dry naturally. Do not wipe it clean. Do keep it in a place where no dust can reach it. If you are unable to attain any such place, keep your model car in a shoebox and let it dry completely. Washing the car rids it of any residue left behind after the car has been put together. Any oil stains or grease marks are all washed away, and you can give your model car a bright, shiny appearance.
Use Automotive Primer
Begin by giving the model car a coat of automotive primer. Use a sprayer to do the job, as this helps in attaining a uniform finish. Make sure that the primer you use is of good quality and it does not damage the model car’s plastic. If the primer fails to do its job, the final paint will seep through the primer and cause damage to the model car’s body. The primer must have a flat finish; with two coats of primer, the groundwork is complete.
Make sure that the primer is completely dry before you start to paint your model car. Stir the paint well before applying it. Ensure that no bubbles are formed and the paint is not very thick. If the paint seems thick, mix it with paint thinner in small proportions. An acrylic extender is the best thing to put the paint in. It not only smoothens the color but also makes it more transparent and does not let the paint dry out fast, helping attaining an even finish.
Apply two coats of paint. Make sure that the first coat has dried out before providing the final touches. Good-quality brushes are better than the average brushes used for painting. However, a paint sprayer is the best option for painting a model car.
