The whole idea of a quilting retreat is to pack up all your quilting gear and materials, drive out to the country or somewhere nice and meet up with an entire bunch of like minded quilters for a few days of quilting activities.

Who Organizes A Quilting Retreat?

Quilting retreats are customarily held by quilting clubs or groups. If you’re not part of a club or group, that doesn’t mean you are not invited, most clubs and groups are content for new folk to show up to a quilting retreat - after all , thats how they get new members and meet new people, which is a component of what a quilting retreat is about!

What Goes On At A Quilting Retreat?

One thing about these retreats is that, no two quilting retreats are the same. While they may all have time to work on your quilts, each one does something new.

Its not uncommon for there to be a swap or trading session where people go through each others materials and swap for some material of their own.

Some retreats also have ’show and tell ‘ sessions about members favorite quilts, which may be anything from pointers and tips to showing their progress on their latest green quilt design.

Also, on the odd occasion manufacturers and shops will also come out to show the groups new materials and tools that will be on the market shortly.

Nowadays the Web is the easiest and best way to find out quilting groups and upcoming retreats in your area. A quick search in Google should turn up numerous good sites with info.

Also do not forget to check community noticeboards at town halls or the library as well as the local newspaper. Many groups still advertise upcoming retreats this way too!
