What Rare Silver Coins Can Be Worth
Collecting gold coins is considered a valuable investment. Many people collect them as their hobby. Gold coins have become a sound financial decision, and a fun hobby, because the value of gold has nearly doubled in the past five years.
old coins value
One thing to keep in mind if you choose to invest in gold coins is that older coins tend to be worth more than newer ones. Which tend to drive up their value, so think like a long-term investor, this is because hobby collectors like old coins. As an investment, gold coins need to be kept for at least a year in order to get maximum return on your investment. During shaky economic times, gold coins are great to have in your investment portfolio.

How much a gold coin is worth depends on a variety of factors. These include the coin’s age and condition, as well as the number originally produced. Among the more searched for gold coins are the Spur Royal, the Solidus, and the Aureus.

The Spur Royal is a rare English coin minted during the reign of King James I. At first issuance it was worth fifteen shillings. It depitcs a king in a ship. He is shown to be holding a sword and a shield. Surrounding this scene will have the following inscribed. The inscription reads “IACOBUS DG MAG BRIT FRAN ET HIB REX – James by the grace of God King of Great Britain France and Ireland”. The reverse shows a rose beneath a star with a lion and crown in each quarter section of the coin. The inscription, on the reverse side reads, “A DNO FACTUM EST ISTUD ET EST MIRABILE”, transcribes to, “This is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous.” The Arues, from ancient Rome, is another gold coin. 25 silver denarii is what it was originally valued at. The coin is almost pure gold; it contains in excess of ninety-nine percent gold, compared to the ninety percent found in an American gold dollar piece.
First introduced around 301 AD is the Solidus coin, also minted by the Romans. The coin was worth 1000 denarii at the time it was minted. “Soldier” is derived from the word “Solidus”, describing the coin used to pay the Roman soldiers.
Gold coins that are rare can bring in a very pretty penny. In July, 2002, a rare $20 Double Eagle was sold for over $7 million, becoming the world’s most valuable coin. Even though few coin collectors will run across a coin of that value, they can all still experience the joy that comes from owning a personal collection of gold coins.
