Ballroom Dancing Competetions-An Overview

We all know that Ballroom dancing is a skill used for fun and leisure at social gatherings. However, if one heard about the Queensland Open, South pacific Championships, World Super Stars at Jupiter’s on the Gold Coast and the Australian Championships, one would be convinced that this is some sport that we are talking about. Indeed, competitive ballroom dancing is an extremely competitive sport in Australia. It involves people from all age groups and dance contests round the year, across the country.

Ballroom dancing competition is the foremost passion of Australians. They practice in groups for hours together regularly, to improve their style and methods. They also take training on one-to-one basis from their instructors. They are aware of the tough competition, so they put in enough labor to stay fit and be at par with others.

One needs to practice a lot to become an expert in ballroom dancing. One may need to try a step or pattern repeatedly to master it. People stay back after a class to practice a little more with their partner and practice regularly at home to grasp the next lesson properly. The serious learners arrive early for their class, so that they can try out the steps learnt in the earlier lesson. Many Dance studios offer rehearsal party or studio dance from time to time. These dances surely make one more proficient and enable everyone to recognize the more talented dancers. They are particularly beneficial for new learners, as the expert dancers willingly offer to guide them.

The competitions take place in all the capitals and community centers. The spectators and participants, both look forward to these events. The participants of these competitions pay special attention on their attire for the contest to come across, as the best dressed among all. These competitions are for all age groups and for people with different level of skills. There are separate competitions for six age levels. They are, juvenile, Junior, youth, adult, masters 1 and masters 2. In each level, one may choose to compete in a style of their choice, among three styles, Modern Ballroom style, Latin American style and New Vogue style. Amongst these, Latin American is the most commonly competed style. Each style is competed in five grades. You have to win each grade in order to reach the next grade.

Therefore, there is something for everybody, irrespective of his or her age and experience. The rule of thumb is to go out and enjoy.
